Tournament of Champions kicks off Nov. 9-10

Each year the PGA hosts its tournament of champions, giving winners from the previous year's tournaments a chance to compete against each other to determine an ultimate champion.

On Nov. 9-10, the top finishers from the 2002 city and the county golf championships will have that same opportunity thanks to the first Tournament of Champions being sponsored by, The Star's golf Web site.

The invitation-only tournament will feature the top three finishers in each flight from every city tournament.

The two-day tournament will be played the first day at Olivas Park Golf Course and the second day at Sterling Hills Golf Club.

The Tournament of Champions is just one of many new benefits that will be generated for Ventura County golfers from the improved Web site.

"The goal is to make this site the premier spot for golf information in the county," said Bob Allen, the founder of, who is helping develop the new site. "Between the new Web site and the golf coverage in The Star, golfers will be able to get find any kind of golf news or information they are looking for, things like coverage of charity golf events and what's going on with local golf clubs."

Allen believes can take what he started with his Web site and expand on it.

"This gives us a much greater ability to give coverage to all the golf happenings in Ventura," Allen said.
