HOLE-IN-ONE STORIES

Julius Munoz, August 31, 2003

Julius Munoz made a Hole-In-One during the second day of play at the 41st Annual State Tournament, on the 15th hole at Sterling Hills Golf Club in Camarillo.   Those who were honored to witness the event were: Gil Ramirez (Ventura Co. MAGA and also the hole sponsor!), Ed Fonseca (San Francisco MAGA) and Rudy Nunez (Long Beach MAGA)

“He wasn’t going to play!“   Some of you may know that Julius was resigned not to play in the State Tournament, however, several members surprised him at his 70th birthday party with a special gift….his entry fee to the tournament.   Julius received many other gifts...including a gift from Manuel Garcia, a box of Top Flite 3000 balls; the same ball he used on this “beautiful” day!

According to Julius he hit a 5-iron on this somewhat tricky 151 yard par 3.  Not bad for a 70 year old!!   This was his second hole-in-one; the first one was not witnessed , therefore does not count!

Julius also was awarded $1,000 from the Ventura MAGA Chapter Hole-In-One fund.  Congratulations Julius!  There’s just one more thing………...where’s the beer Julius???

Doug Heller, August 3, 2002

With dark skies and a heavy drizzle on Saturday morning August 3, the foursome of Albert Perez, John Ramirez III, Doug Heller and Pablo Ortiz teed it up at Saticoy Regional during a regularly scheduled Saturday morning friendly tournament of the Ventura chapter of MAGA.  On the par 3 159 yard 8th, John and Pablo laid just short and right of the green while Albert Perez landed the green 18 feet short of the pin.  At this point Albert was two up on Doug Heller so Doug calls for a press, which Albert enthusiastically accepted.  Doug calmly addressed his ball with an eight iron, took aim and fired away producing a shot that landed 2 feet in front of the hole and backed in for the first ace of his 20 year amateur golf career.   Doug recently won the MAGA club championship and is looking forward to playing in the State MAGA tournament at Paso Robles during the Labor Day weekend. Congratulations Doug!

 Robert Castro, November 10, 2001

Robert Castro made a Hole-In-One on the 98-yard sixth hole at Saticoy Regional Golf Course.  Castro used a pitching wedge, which was witnessed by Herman Mora, Bob Cisneros, Joe Puga and Maria Elena Benavides.   Also at the tee box witnessing the event was Al Urias, Marshall.
